How to get rid of dark circles and eye bags

They say that “eyes are the mirror of the soul” which is pretty deep if you ask me, but sometimes it’s true. Your eyes often reflect your emotions or your emotional state. When it comes to attraction, most people don’t think that your eyes would rank at the top of attractive facial features.

Why you should try to get rid of eye bags

Lucky for you, I have researched the most attractive facial features in men according to women. It turns out, eyes are number one, and hair number 2. Not really surprising if you ask me. I am a big proponent of taking care of your hair (if you don’t have hair, you can still be attractive, don’t worry).

So when taking care of your eyes, there are a few things you can do, which I believe the most effective in overall appearance is not having eye bags or dark circles. Thanks to lifestyle and nutrition factors you could have very prominent eye bags. Also, eye color is irrelevant, you can still have attractive eyes even if your eye color is common.

This can be worked in two main ways if we exclude eye bag surgery which i dont think is necessary and should be avoided if possible. Lifestyle and even nutrition changes are the main ways to combat eye bags, and as a plus, an eye roller or eye cream can be useful when it comes to reducing eye bags and dark circles.

What are eye bags and dark circles?

Eye bags are better described as the puffy skin you get under your eyes, you will commonly see eye bags in older people. It is the swelling of the skin that is below your eyes and they could be caused by age, genetics, fat distribution, poor sleep water retention or allergies.

Dark circles are the darkened part under your eyes, it can also be caused by poor sleep, nutritional deficiencies, skin pigmentation and even genetics. There is more than one theory about what causes these issues, but there are a few things you can easily work on.

You can have dark circles but not eye bags and vice versa. But the causes are very similar, so let’s dive into what we can do to improve the appearance in your eyes that is so important to look good.

Lifestyle changes

Cosmetic products can help but they need to be used while you adopt better habits. These are the main lifestyle changes that you can work on to get rid of eye bags and dark circles:

  • Sleep: it’s no secret that sleep will help you look well rested and look fresh. The first thing people say to you when you have dark circles is, have you been sleeping well? So make sure you get 7-8 hours of quality sleep.
  • Stress: There is actually a theory that implies stress will make dark circles worse, since thanks to it blood flow will be limited to certain areas, such as the face, and this will make dark circles worse.
  • Sleep position: this is optional for sure, if you do not find a certain sleeping position comfortable i wouldn’t say you have to sleep this way, but if you sleep with some elevation (pillows) this theoretically would help dark circles. This is because it will help to prevent blood from getting accumulated in the blood vessels of your eyes.
  • Hydration: Who would say that drinking water would be good for dark circles. We are approximately 60% water. Hydration plays a crucial role in blood flow and skin health and elasticity. Ideal blood flow can help to prevent blood from getting stuck in the eye vessels.
  • Balanced diet: Similar to hydration, a diet that is rich in vitamins and minerals will improve blood flow and skin health. Certain vitamins like vitamin C are important for collagen production and skin health. So make sure you have a good diet. Iron is also important and dark circles themselves can be an indicator of an iron deficiency. Do not go crazy on supplements. You need to address first if you are deficient since you can risk vitamin overdose.
  • Exercise:  Yet another benefit for exercise, any type of exercise will stimulate blood flow, improve sleep (just don’t work out close to bedtime) and reduce stress. All of these things will help you indirectly to improve eye bags and dark circles. So make sure you engage in some type of physical activity at least 2-3 times per week.

The best cosmetic products

A simple eye roll on with caffeine and vitamin C is more than enough, caffeine will improve circulation and vitamin C will help with pigmentation. Other ingredients can help depending on your situation, but caffeine and vitamin C will be the best “bang for your buck”

When can you see changes

As always, try things for yourself and see how they work for you, visible changes in almost every aspect of the body takes at least 4 weeks, so have a routine and implement these lifestyle changes and track your progress. If things don’t work out then try something different. Try to get before pictures and after pictures in the same lighting since lightning can make a huge difference in pictures. After all of these, you will look and feel better.
